  • IN DEVELOPMENT: The Code of Hammurabi

And our latest film in development: The Code of Hammurabi. It's a taut, fast-paced thriller centered around the machinations of a Wall Street bank at the precipice of the 2008 financial crisis.

"On Wall St., there are no rules when you're the only one who can break them."

Many films have been made about the near collapse of the world financial system in 2008, focused primarily on deepening the viewers' understanding of the factual record and key players involved.
The Code of Hammurabi sets out to accomplish something different.

Rather than depicting a historically accurate account of all persons and events, our film uses "the rough outlines and textures of Wall Street's flirtation with economic disaster to speculate on the notions of human conduct, the conduct that lies at the heart of nearly every man-made disaster... We see all the elements of human conflict: alliance, greed, rivalry, sexual manipulation, betrayal, conspiracy and most importantly clashing ethics. The principle characters as in all good drama struggle mightily to balance inner desires, exterior circumstances and moral dilemma. There are no simple 'white hats' and 'black hats', but sharp slashing portraits of complex human beings wearing the shaded headgear of compromised principle. The characters are fictional, but the issues driving them are all too real."
-Emmy award-winner Ron Canada (director, The Invested theatrical premiere)

  • IN DEVELOPMENT: The Invested

I'm excited to share our latest project that's in development, THE INVESTED.

The story is centered around Catherine Murdoch - head of wealth management at MetroBank - must decide whether to follow her ambition or her conscience when a corrupt new CEO threatens her world and her values.

Based on the play by Sharyn Rothstein, THE INVESTED is a taut, fast-paced thriller, centered around the machinations of a Wall Street bank at the precipice of the financial crisis of 2008. The film tells the story of Catherine Murdoch, head of wealth management at MetroBank, where she was just passed over for CEO. When the corruption brought forth by the new CEO threatens her world and her values, Catherine must decide where her alliances will lie - does she follow her ambition or does she follow her conscience?
An attention-grabbing drama about greed, ethics, loyalty, and corruption inside one of the largest and most powerful banks in the world, THE INVESTED shows the rivalries, betrayals, and alliances that could bring the world to the brink of economic disaster.

    THE SIGNIFICANCE OF THIS PROJECT

“In times of crisis, always blame the one who isn’t in the room.”

Having directed the original play, on which our film is based, Emmy award-winner Ron Canada speaks to the significance of our story:

“Thousands of words have been written about and spoken in explication of the near collapse of the world financial system in 2008. Films such as the documentary ‘Inside Job’ and theatrical ‘Too Big To Fail’ have attempted to familiarize us with the names and faces of those who played major roles, both in fomenting the crisis, and sparing us (for the moment) from its most dire potential consequences. It would be difficult for [anything] to match what these books, magazine articles and films have done to deepen our understanding of the factual record . . . THE INVESTED is something different.

[THE INVESTED uses] the rough outlines and textures of Wall Street’s flirtation with economic disaster to speculate on the notions of human conduct, the conduct that lies at the heart of nearly every man-made disaster. On the upper two floors of [the] fictional MetroBank (an institution that exists in the alternate universe where Goldman Sachs does not, or is only number two) we see all the elements of human conflict: alliance, greed, rivalry, sexual manipulation, betrayal, conspiracy and most importantly clashing ethics. The principle characters as in all good drama struggle mightily to balance inner desires, exterior circumstances and moral dilemma. [There are] no simple minded “white hats” and “black hats”, but sharp slashing portraits of complex human beings wearing the shaded headgear of compromised principle.[The] characters are fictional, but the issues driving them are all too real."

  • BIG Announcement!

It is with profound joy that Noel and I announce the birth of our daughter, Vera Garcia Hildreth, born on March 7th at our home in NYC.

Weighing 7lbs. 8oz., she's nursing and sleeping soundly through the night. Noel is resting comfortably.

Her 2 year old brother, Lennox, wasn't quite sure what to make of her but her big sisters, 6 year old Aya and 4 year old Chiara were very excited to meet her.

We all gathered around her at the kitchen table yesterday afternoon and she appeared to look about as if to say " what have I gotten myself into…?"

    Life baby…life.

Please join us in welcoming Vera to our family.

One of my goals is to collaborate with NYC talent reps. If you know a NYC agent or manager with whom I can share the premiere info for my new film "CHILD OF GRACE" (2015), that would be most welcome! Simply hit reply to this email and let me know.

Finally, I'm excited to announce that today at 4:00pm there will be reading of a new play by Dominic Hoffman, "Dinosaurs", for producers and investors at the Producer's Club in Midtown Manhattan! This witty four character comedy has been described as "Oscar Wilde for 2015." We expect to mount this exciting new work in NYC soon!

  • Latest News

The latest film by Sternman Productions Child Of Grace starring Maggie Elizabeth Jones, Ted Levine and Thomas Hildreth will hit the film festival circuit in 2015 while a distribution deal to combine a limited theatrical release with a major TV presentation and a marketing campaign to reach out to both the faith-based and veterans communities throughout the United States is underway. Stay posted on news for Child Of Grace.

Also in development at Sternman Productions NY is the new play Dinosaurs by LA playwright and actor Dominic Hoffman. We will hold our first private staged reading of the play for investors and producers in January with an expected NY production in 2015. Dinosaurs is a farcical , smart comedic peek at the effects of massive wealth on casual dating and the struggle with commitment and the prospect of marriage, a fun 1hr 15 min sans intermission four character romp.

Sternman Productions is also in development for the screen adaptation of Sharyn Rothstein's play The Invested to be produced with Madeline Austin also behind the the theatrical NY run in 2009.

And finally, Sternman is developing a screen adaptation of the horror thriller set in Portland Maine, The Cutting by Portland writer James Hayman. The Cutting will be filmed entirely in Portland Maine and the surrounding community.

  • First Peek Screenings : Child of Grace

Sternman Productions is proud to roll out a series of screenings of Child of Grace for the cast and crew and select guests starting with LA on August 11th and then in NY on September 8th. We are also presenting screenings on Vinalhaven Maine (where Sternman's Islander was filmed) on August 21st and 23rd. These are "free" screenings for the community and donations will benefit the Vinalhaven School drama department. Finally, there will be a free screening in Bangor Maine at the beautiful Gracie Theatre on September 6th. The screening will be followed by a Q&A/talkback with director Ian McCrudden and producer Thomas Hildreth. This is our way of saying thank you to the Bangor community and the the town of Millinocket in particular for their reception and generosity they exhibited during our production last fall.

These screenings will be very informative for us to gauge audience reaction. We are very confident the audience will respond not only to the crime/mystery that unfolds in this movie but also the emotional weight that it carries all in a film led by the up and coming 10 year old Maggie Elizabeth Jones. It is rare indeed to see a film about a child that deals with such serious issues and emotions. It is a film about a child that adults will appreciate… Child of Grace delivers…
